چکیده

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this paper is to investigate the fluid status of patients in the early stages of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 36 patients (13 males and 23 females), hospitalized in the Nephrology CAPD Center, Peking University Third Hospital, and undergoing intubation and CAPD treatment, were recruited in this study. By utilize a bioelectrical impedance analyzer, changes in extracellular fluid and intracellular fluid within the patients' cells, and overall fluid changes were monitored throughout six months following CAPD treatment. Blood pressure was taken before dialysis and during six months following dialysis. Dietary assessment was also performed by recording and analyzing the patients' dietary protein and caloric intake during this six months period. RESULTS Over a six-month period, following CAPD treatment, the fluid status of the patients displayed a rising trend, indicated by weight gain, increasing extracellular fluid (ECW), intracellular fluid (ICW), overall water (TBW) and standardized extracellular fluid (NECW). Peritoneal ultrafiltration volume, and residual urine volume, showed no significant difference before or after treatment. During the six-month period, the dietary caloric intake of patients increased. Prior to CAPD, the patients' systolic blood pressure level was higher than normal. Following treatment, it returned to normal, and, due to the patients' rising fluid status, no change occurred during the six-month monitoring period. CONCLUSIONS During the early stages of CAPD treatment, patients' fluid status increased, as a result of dietary improvement and the increased intake of water and salt. However, weight gain, in the early stages of the CAPD, is more likely due to rising fluid status than nutritional improvement. Early control of water and salt intake is of crucial importance for CAPD patients.

Correlation between Ultrafiltration Coefficient and Effective Lymphatic Absorption Rate in Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis Patients: A Possible Paradigm Shift

Background: The relative contribution of transcapillary water movement and lymphatic reabsorption in peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a critical issue, particularly in patients with ultrafiltration failure (UFF). Based on routine results obtained from the PD Adequest 2.0 software, the present study aimed to re-evaluate the separate effects of transcapillary water movement and lymphatic reabsorption ...

Background: Peritoneal dialysis is one of the most commonly used treatment methods for the patients with end stage renal failure. In recent years, the mortality rate of patients under this treatment has decreased; however, long-term survival is still an important challenge for health systems. The present study aimed to predict the survival of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients. ...

عوارض و ماندگاری کاتترگذاری دیالیز صفاقی به‌روش لاپاراسکوپی در بیماران تحت دیالیز صفاقی مداوم

Background: Laparoscopic techniques for the placement of peritoneal dialysis catheters are becoming increasingly popular. Recently, with the improvements in laparoscopic surgery, various methods for the insertion of peritoneal dialysis catheters have been reported, indicating that the laparoscopic insertion is preferred over the open and percutaneous techniques. The aim of this study was to int...

Carbohydrate and lipid metabolism during continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD): the effect of a single dialysis cycle.

The effect on hormonal status and intermediary metabolism of a single 6 h dialysis cycle at two different concentrations of dialysate glucose was investigated in six patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. The basal blood glucose level was elevated by 0.5 mmol/l, associated with a threefold increase in basal serum insulin compared with seven normal controls. Blood glucose and ser...

Complications of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis: evaluation with CT peritoneography.

OBJECTIVE Patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis are frequently referred for radiologic evaluation of complications related to the dialysis. We studied the value of CT peritoneography in evaluating these complications. CT peritoneography is a technique in which CT scans are obtained after dialysis fluid containing iodinated contrast material is infused into the peritoneal cavity ...
